In this part, Phoenix faces a moral dilemma: should he request a not-guilty verdict now, thereby saving Maya, but condemning an innocent woman to death while letting a killer go free? Or should he continue the trial to get the truth? Phoenix requests that the trial continue; after all, if he stalls for time long enough, eventually the evidence that Gumshoe found will be delivered. Shelley de Killer testifies about Adrian Andrews. Phoenix points out a problem with the testimony: Adrian had no foreknowledge of the murder.
